Maintenance management in petrol stations

How BP’s petrol station maintenance management software delivers costs savings of around £2m/year

BP’s retail offer has changed significantly over the years. Every petrol station now features a full convenience store, and that has brought with it a complex set of maintenance management needs.

BP’s view of the business has become ever more global and less focused on individual countries, while at the same time there’s been a drive across the organization towards process standardization.

In these circumstances, the CMMS systems that had earlier served BP well could no longer meet the changing business demands.

Now was the time to move to a single global CMMS application.

Introducing eMaintenance+

Urgent Technology’s eMaintenance+ offers a single source code and a single repair structure, which means it can underpin process standardization in maintenance management across the business.

It supports multiple languages and has a web services API that allows it to interface easily with BP suppliers’ own field service management systems. It is robust, highly scalable, and can fully support the needs of BP’s petrol station retail network worldwide.

The benefits

After initial implementations in South Africa and Mozambique – where eMaintenance+ directly replaced an existing IBM Maximo solution – it has now been rolled out across Europe: a single platform providing transparent, comparable real-time data across multiple countries and continents.

Introduced into some 8000 petrol station retail sites in over 10 countries, eMaintenance+ has enabled BP to reduce its dependency on outsourced providers and has delivered savings of approximately £2m per annum.

The standardized API supplier interface also creates supply chain efficiencies. In the UK and Germany, for example, 70% of maintenance tasks are updated by suppliers using the API. On average, suppliers’ time on site is reduced by 6 minutes per update, equating to a saving of almost 600 work days per annum.

Alongside reactive petrol station maintenance management, eMaintenance+ also provides H&S incident reporting, compliance and environmental audits, contractor management, online equipment repair guides and inventory management of assets.
